Uncertainty is one of the discomforting situations we face in our lives. We often not able to do anything when we face with uncertainty as we are not sure about security. Today’s word of God wants to remind us and teach us on how God wants us to experience the sense of true security.
This sense of true security cannot be found in this world, in the monetary, in the family, even in the life insurance. The bible teaches us to find true security, which can only be found in God’s love and authority. This is the main point when we read Ephesians 1: 11-14 on how God wants to know that there is an existence of true security in God’s love and authority. There are three things that we can learn from this passage.
Firstly, God states true security in love and authority as there is a certainty for us in obtaining an inheritance that God has promised, because God Himself works on everything in accordance to the purpose of His will. He is the sovereign God works on everything in accordance to the purpose of His will and there is none of the obstruction that prevent Him in wanting, determining, and planning as well as executing God’s plan. God’s promise will happen in accordance to God’s works on everything in the purpose of His will. We can see this similar occurrence in the recent news that a country named Ecuador bows to U.S President Donald Trump’s demand of transferring the illegal immigrants to their country or they will face sanctions should they did not bow to his demand.
When compared to God, the creator of heaven and earth, works on everything in accordance to the purpose of His will, then we, with the shady heart must realise that we must give all our heart, all of our hope and trust to God that works on everything to bring goodness for His people. Romans 11:36 reminds us of the truth of this: “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.” In this first part, we can see that His promise that we can obtain part of His promise, that it is a certainty that will be impossible to fail. We need to remember that Christianity begins from humble beginning. From last week’s sermon, that through God’s promise, Christianity will unite everything, including heaven and earth, through the presence of His church is His own body stating his greatness and his majesty that He unite everything in Christianity.
Secondly, it is because of the inheritance, can only be certainly given to those who believe in God, which can be referenced from verses 12 and 13. In this second point, we need to understand that those people who gets true security in the Christianity as well as their promise because of God that works on everything is the people who believed and placed their hope in Christ. They will ultimately earned praise, respect, and honor that will be given to God.
Thirdly, how, and what God did for ensuring that we can experience true security in our lives and to accept promises from God. God takes important steps for ensuring that His name be glorified and His people receive all spiritual blessings. God did this by giving His holy spirit as a seal and guarantee that it will take place. His holy spirit is a seal and guarantee for us that His promise will be received and God’s name be glorified, that it is God’s ultimate purpose.
What is the meaning of that those who believed in God are sealed by His holy spirit? There are two meanings of what His holy spirit sealed us.
Firstly, to protect us from the Satan’s authority and distrust. If we are God’s people who believe and born anew, then the spiritual blessing will present in our lives as a seal that can protect us from misdirection and distrust.
Secondly, it shows the sign of authenticity. This is the sign that we really are the true children of God. Spiritual blessing has been given, which stated that it is the children of God that has been sealed. As the children of God born anew, believing in God, therefore God sent the spiritual blessing as an authentic seal, not the fake children of God but the true children of God. Therefore, the question is whether you have the personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ? Can you personally answer this question that you truly known God the creator of heaven and earth? Furthermore, do you also know that God knows you as His children? Do you come to Christ regularly through prayer and word of God? By reading the word of God and pray, you will know that God is present and alive. God wants us to experience true safety and true security in His love and authority by sending spiritual blessing as a seal for us.
Today, as of now, we have been given an opportunity to taste the deposit of the guarantee that we will certainly receive it. Should we be able to exclaim to God, come to His presence, the availability of the relief from God, as well as grace that God provides to us, that should we enter and strive together in this church, that you can then experience and see God’s hand and His inclusion. Therefore we need to strive, be loyal with struggle and difficulty, as well as unfinished task that God provides to us.
May this word of God strengthen us and continue to strive, realising God’s beautiful plan and the certainty that we can only experience in His love and authority.
